How to effectively write a press release for your song or album -Music promotion is one key aspect of the music industry.
In artist development, writing a good and compelling press release could be all you need to grow the reader’s attention into the love for your art. A music press release serves as a marketing tool. It narrates the concepts of your song, and serves more like a trailer.
If not written properly, you will end up paying huge money to put up your materials on top music blogs and fail to convert the exposure to something positive.
Here are 5 basic things to consider when writing a press release for your songs or album.
1. What makes your work different?
Your song is a bi-product of your brand. It is not the only product in your industry. Whether it is an album, a mixtape or a single, you need to narrate what makes your material unique. If your sound is similar to that of a popular artist, why do I have to fetch it? Sell the unique nature of your sound to the public, that’s a pulling factor.
2. Keep it short
Ever wondered why a movie of 120 minutes will have just a 2 minutes trailer? This is it. Nobody has time to waste on a new product. You just have to highlight your selling points and describe your product in summary. Keep the press release simple, build the suspense and allow them want to have more. The lengthier your press release gets the boring it becomes.
3. Allow someone else to tell the story
A manufacturing company hires a marketing or advertising firm to make their sale copy. This is because a firsthand user will most definitely sound more real than you. As the owner of the product, you’ll be more zealous and too passionate. You will most of the time find it difficult to shrink your press release because you have so much you want the public to know about your new sound. Just as a witness plays an important role in criminal cases in court, a firsthand listener will be more convincing in writing a press release for your album or songs.
4. Ensure the first paragraph carries a brief introduction about you (the brand)
The first paragraph should carry information describing you, your record label and the name of your new product as well.
5. Your second paragraph carries the heart of the press release.
Just hit the hammer on the nail. What is the song about, what’s the sound like, who is the producer, what is the distinguishing factor? Why do I have to listen to your new song? Simply sale your product in less than two sentences just before your last paragraph which habours your contact details.
