Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ayo "Wizkid" Balogun dishes out his fourth studio album "Made In Lagos" on 29th of October 2020 teams up with Justin Bieber for "Essence Remix".
The 14-tracks body of work features Ella Mai, H.E.R, Terri, Tems, Damian Marley, Skepta, Burna Boy, Projexx, and Tay Iwar. The album has gone on to become one of Wizkid's top projects. The album with over half a billion streams across all streaming platforms is being led by Essence a sensual R&B record featuring Tems and produced by Legundary Beatz and P2J.
The Starboy Entertainment boss, Wizkid who is signed to RCA records linked up with Canadian singer and songwriter, Justin Bieber for the remix of his hit song Essence featuring Tems.
Following the release of this remix, Wizkid announced the deluxe version of his critically acclaimed fourth studio album Made in Lagos. According to the pre-order link he made available, the deluxe album will feature three new songs and the Essence remix featuring Justin Bieber.
There have been questions regarding the relevance of a Justin Bieber remix to Essence. Many argue that the song has already done so well without a non-African name on it and needed no remix whatsoever.
It's true that remixes are done to push a song to attain its full potential. Judging from this statement, there should not be any need for this remix as the song is already doing so well. But the question will be, was this remix done to push the original song or to promote the deluxe album?
This could be what the plan is.
