2021 has been busy for Nigerian artists. New talents have been discovered and a whole lot of projects (extended plays and albums) have been released.
2020 was busy. Olamide, Fireboy DML, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, Rema, Joeboy, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, and a host of others all dropped a project of two last year, The coronavirus pandemic could have played a role in getting almost all Nigerian music stars to either release an extended play or an album last year.
So far in 2021, artists like Olamide, Ruger, Lojay, and Rexxie, have all dropped their projects. We have carefully listened and highlighted our top ten projects released this year.
10. KDDO - Too Late Too Lit
Nigerian music producer and songwriter and recording artist, Ayoola Oladapo Agboola who is mostly known as Kiddominant or KDDO return with a brand new project tagged "Too Late Too Lit".
KDDO or Kiddominant is best known who producing Davido's hit song 'Fall' which is Afrobeats longest-charting billboard single peaking on US R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart at number 13 and US Hot R&B Songs chart at number 25 on Billboard.
9. Laycon - Shall We Begin
Nigerian rapper and performing artist, Olamilekan Moshood Agbeleshe, who is mostly known as Laycon presents his new album tagged 'Shall We Begin'.
Laycon who is signed to Fierce Nation a record label under which he released his first extended play 'Who is Laycon' partners with OneRPM to unlock a solid 12-tracks album.
The album features two previously released singles and ten new songs.
8. Rexxie - A True Champion
Nigerian serial hitmaker and music producer, Chizom Ezeh who is best known as Rexxie unlocks his debut album tagged ‘A True Champion’.
The KPK crooner, Rexxie who dished out his debut ‘Afro Street’ project in 2020 crowns himself 'A True Champion' in his debut album. His Extended Play is a 7-track project featuring stars like Zlatan, Naira Marley, Barry Jhay, and Poco Lee.
Rexxie via his socials revealed he has songs with Teni and South African singer, Sho Madjozi. Others are Mohbad, Buju, Davido, Naira Marley, Sarkodie, Zlatan, Bella Shmurda, T Classic, Oxlade, Ms Banks, Bad Boy Timz, Zinoleesky, Kida Kudz, Peruzzi, Lyta, Emo Grae, Seyi Vibez, and Moelogo.
7. King Perry - Citizen Of The World
Nigerian songwriter, singer, and musical performer, Anthony Offiah who is popularly known asKing Perryy presents his new project tagged 'Citizen Of The World'.
The DM records recording artist, King Perryy features Timaya, Kizz Daniel, Phyno, PyschoYP, Oxlade, and Mayorkun in his new project. The 17-tracks body of work is a dancehall pack with a few other genres like reggae, afro-fusion, and popular music.
King Perry includes a few of his previously released singles in this LP album.
6. Bella Shmurda - High Tension 2.0
Fast-rising Nigerian singer and songwriter, Akinbiyi Abiola Ahmed, who is professionally known as Bella Shmurda unlocks his highly anticipated body of works captioned; “High Tension 2.0” EP.
Bella who rose to fame with his debut single 'Vision 2020' released in 2019 comes through with his second career mixtape. The mixtape consists of eight songs and three singles 'Rush', 'Party Next Door', and 'World'.
The Dagbana Republik frontline teams up with his record label for a beautiful masterpiece as he continues to push for global dominance.
5. Blaqbonez - Sex Over Love
Nigerian rapper and performing artist, Emeka Akumefule, who is mostly known as Blaqbonez presents his new project tagged 'Sex Over Love'.
Blaqbonez who is signed to 100 Crowns which is an imprint of Nigeria's hip-hop label, Chocolate City comes through with a solid 14-tracks album that basically prefers sex to love.
The album features three previously released singles and 11 new songs.
4. Lojay x Sarz - LV N ATTN
Nigerian music producer and musician, Osabuohien Osaretin who is best known as Sarz teams up with Lekan Osifeso Jr aka Lojay for a joint project tagged "LV N ATTN" which mean Love and Attention.
Sarz who has been in the game for a while teams up with Lojay for a new joint extended play following his recent work with Wurld. The 'LV N ATTN' is a beautiful 5-tracks project exclusively produced by Sarz and performed by Lojay.
Like expected, Wizkid joins his producer friend, Sarz and Lojay in their new 'LV N ATTN' R&B and afro-house tape.
3. Ayra Starr - AY STARR
Nigeria's Mavin records new signee Oyinkansola Aderibigbe widely known as Ayra Starr comes through with a self-titled debut EP.
The Benin-born Nigerian singer and songwriter who was raised between Cotonou, Benin Republic, and Lagos, Nigeria shows off her magical vocals in her new extended play. Ayra Starr has been likened to Nigerian megastar Tems for her alluring vocals and genre. Despite the comparisons and criticisms, her new project resonates on streaming platforms.
She covers R$B, Alternative, and trap in her 5-tracks debut of work majorly produced by Mavin records in-house music producer and sound engineer, Loudaa. Like always, Ayra Starr was discovered by Don Jazzy a year ago and has been undergoing tutelage in preparation for this moment. She had some freestyle video clips on her Instagram page prior to her career launch under Mavin records. She is barely 19. Ayra Starr possesses a rare voice. Her ability to control her voice in an extraordinary manner is spectacular.
2. Ruger - Pandemic
Just like Rema who followed up his activation with a brand new extended play, Ruger has teamed up with Kukbeatz to give us a six times experience of his untapped talent.
D'Prince who announced the signing of his new act, Ruger a few weeks ago is currently hoping the star goes on to unleash all the potential he saw in him.
1. Olamide - UY SCUTI
The YBNL boss is arguably the most decorated performing artist in Nigeria at the moment. Olamide who performs in English and Yoruba presents a 10-tracks album as a follow-up to his recently released project Carpe Diem.
The incoming album 'UY SCUTI' is his twelfth project in his eleven years career which gives him a high ratio of one project in a year.
The new project by Olamide features Layydoe, Fave, Jaywillz, and Phyno. It is a perfectly crafted body of work that amplifies Olamide's range and versatility as an artist. He ensured his sounds are peculiar and new to an already saturated market.
