Here's Why Olamide's 'UY SCUTI' Album Could Flop - Editorial
Nigerian veteran rapper and record label executive, Olamide Gbenga Adedeji who is best known as Olamide or Baddo is set to release a new album tagged 'UY SCUTI' this week.
The YBNL boss is one of the most decorated performing artists in Nigeria at the moment. The rapper who performs in English and Yoruba announced his ninth project as a solo act is dropping this year.
Recall that the rapper dropped two projects last year '999' and 'Carpe Diem' after penning down a Joint Venture Deal with Empire Music.
The incoming album 'UY SCUTI' is his twelfth project in his eleven years career which gives him a high ratio of one project in a year.
On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, Olamide via his Instagram story, announced he was done working on another album. The album UY Scuti is scheduled for release June 18 and features Layydoe, Fave, Jaywillz, and Phyno.
Less hype
Obviously, no one can compare the UY Scuti is receiving to that of Carpe Diem which is arguably one of his classic projects. The new project is not given the attention as did some of his projects in the past. Though Olamide is known to succeed even without blowing his own trumpets, it could be needed to get something spectacula out of this project.
Less big name features
Phyno is the only big name featured on thir project. Olamide might be trying to give new acts an opportunity in this project but that could be detrimental. Maybe there could have been a whole lot of buzz built around this project if he had featured more big names on the album.
Zero demand
Personally, I see music as a business first before anything else and judging by simple econmics rule of demand and supply, it'll be difficult to market a product when there is little or no demand for it. I don't think there is much demand for another Olamide not after he released two albums last year.
