At first, we thought he was kidding when he said he will drop one more album as Wizkid after 'Made in Lagos' but now it's looking like he is serious. Wizkid recently changed his Instagram name to 'BIG WIZ' and this has been trending on social media.
The Starboy Entertainment boss, Wizkid has now spent over a decade of active years in the game. He came into the limelight in 2009 following the release of his single Holla at your boy after penning down a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E).
In 2011, Wizkid released his debut album Superstar. The album featured singles like Tease Me Bad Guys , Don't Dull, Pakurumo and others. Fast forward to 2021, Wizkid is now one of the biggest afrobeat artists. He has worked with so many international stars and produced so many international hit songs.
Last year, he gave us his fourth studio album and according to him he owes us one more album as Wizkid before he changes his name.
His Fanbase could drop
Wizkid as we know it has the most loyal fanbase in Africa. His fans are spread all over the world but most of them are in the motherland. A change of name could affect his fanbase and the buzz he gets on social media as have been the case of a few who changed their name in the past as a higher percentage of the Nigerian populace are not on the internet and might not be aware of his new name.
A few tours
Obviously, there could be a few tours carried out by Wizkid under his new name. Headlined concerts, and the likes. It could also be a bit difficult for his team to sell out these shows considering the fact that his new name could still be unknown to a lot of his fans.
Once an artist changes his name, he is most of the time on the decline and wrapping up his career.
