Top Five (5) Yoruba Indigenous Rappers 2021

Nigerian hip hop game has grown over time. Hip Hop arrived in Nigeria in the '80s and has been faced with huge competition from other genres as they all fight for the top spot.

Native rap or indigenous rap arguable came into Nigerian music just when English rappers couldn't dominate the game as consumers were after a sound that is relatable and record labels looking for something commercial to guarantee profit.

The likes of Nigga Raw, Dagrin, MC Loph, etc were able to penetrate the music market with rap songs performed in their local dialect.

Today, Indigenous rappers remain the highest-earning rappers in the Nigerian music ecosystem.

1. Olamide

Nigerian singer and hip hop artist, Olamide Gbenga Adedeji popularly known as Olamide records in Yoruba and the English language. The rapper who released his debut album 'Rapsodi' in 2011 is one of the top Yoruba Indigenous rappers in Nigeria 2021.

2. Zlatan Ibile

Nigerian singer, songwriter, musician and dancer, Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, who is known professionally as Zlatan Ibile makes this list as one of the most influential rappers who infuses Yoruba in their songs. Zlatan is the founder and CEO of Zanku record.

3. CDQ

The next on our list is the popular Nigerian indigenous hip-hop rapper and songwriter, Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf popularly known by his stage name CDQ. He is surely one of Nigeria's best lyricists who has influenced our pop culture with the infusion of Yoruba in his rap songs.

4. Naira Marley

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, who is known professionally as Naira Marley, is one of the strong voices in the Nigerian hip-hop game. Naira Marley who raps and sings i Yoruba and English is known as the leader of his controversial fan base, "Marlians".

5. Lil Kesh

The number 5 in our list is no other but Nigeria's very own hip hop artist, Keshinro Ololade known professionally as Lil Kesh. Before now, Lil Kesh was one of Nigeria's biggest talents known with his hit single "Shoki".
