5 Artists That Became More Famous After Leaving Their Labels

Record labels play a huge role in developing Artists in this part of the world majorly because independent artists lack proper management and the necessary funds to market their craft.

The Nigerian music industry has produced several top stars. Record labels like Mavin Records, YBNL, Marlian Music, Davido Music Worldwide, Aristokrat Records, Starboy Entertainment, etc have been able to discover and push new talents. G Worldwide, Empire Mates Entertainment, and others have discovered, developed, market a few talents, and even pathways with some of them.

Some of these artists even after pathing ways with their record labels have been able to maintain their grounds in the game while others have not been able to stand tall in the game.

Here are five Nigerian artists who became more famous after leaving their record labels.

5. DanDizzy

Daniel Tuotamuno Darius who is professionally known as Dandizzy or Wavezaddy is a Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter. He was formerly signed to Cadilly Entertainment but never got to the height he has gotten now. The singer left Cadilly in 2019 after spending two years with the label. After leaving, he has worked with Oxlade, and others.

4. Skiibii

Nigerian singer, Abbey Elias is also known as Skiibii who was formerly signed to Five Star Music left the label some time ago to launch his own imprint, More Grace Music. After leaving the label, Skiibii has released a couple of hit songs including ''Daz How Star Do".

3. Lyta

Nigerian singer, Opeyemi Babatunde Rahim, known professionally as Lyta joined Olamide's YBNL in 2018 but left the label in May 2019 after a little disagreement with his label owner.

After departing the label, Lyta has gone on to work with Naira Marley, Davido and others.

2. Adekunle Gold

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Adekunle Kosoko popularly known as Adekunle Gold left his former label YBNL sometime ago and have had more success now than he had when he was in the label.

1. Burna Boy

Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu is another singer who became an African Giant just after leaving his record label. Burna Boy was signed to Aristokrat Records and was only struggling under the label up until the later years of his years under the label. Since leaving the label, Burna Boy is now Twice as Tall.
