It is great news to see Burna Boy extending a hand of friendship to Rema on twitter. The Mavin records act took to twitter few hours ago to pour out his grievances towards those taking him for granted and to apologize to his friend whom he stole his laptop back in 2017. Self-acclaimed African giant, Burna Boy on reacting to Rema's outpour celebrated the trap and afrobeat act, Rema for being real.
The war for the 'Greatest Of All Time' between Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy has been ongoing for a while. Fans of afrobeat are relentless and determined in crowning any of these three the face of afrobeat. While Davido jumps on controversies to get his ship sailing, Wizkid narrates love and Burna Boy consciously agitates for the black race. With these diversities, it's evident that afrobeat is broad, dynamic and deep.
Wizkid who is signed to RCA records is one of Nigeria's finest popstars. His "Ojuelegba" song drew Drake closer giving him (Wizkid) an opportunity to record the remix of the song with the American megastar and subsequently working on "Come Closer" with him (Drake). He later jumped on "Brown Skin Girl" with Beyonce in 2019 after successfully breaking into the western market with the release of his third studio album "Sounds From The Other Side" in 2017.
David "Davido" Adeleke is famous not just for having awesome numbers on streaming platforms but for creating amazing music and his unique way of representing afrobeat. Davido has been a strong pillar to the growth of afrobeat in the last decade. His single "Fall" was certified gold in US and Canada in 2020 just before his sophomore album "A Good Time" recorded a billion total streams.
Burna Boy in his own way, pioneers a movement for a fairer and better community where racism is minimal or best in extinction giving room for the black race to thrive and have equal opportunity. He recently linked up with veteran music executive P.Diddy who joined him to co-produce his fifth studio album "Twice as Tall".
This trio has done so much for afrobeat over the last decade. In 2019, a youngster was born into the African music space. A young teenager from Benin, Nigeria made it to President Barrack Obama's 2019 summer playlist. Divine "Rema" Ikubor is one of Nigeria's biggest exports. His sounds are well accepted in the western world. Rema's freestyle EP will forever bang. His trap sounds are spectacular and he has awesome streams on spotify, apple music and YouTube to back him up.
Let's have a valid conversation here. I don't necessarily care how you place Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy, but do you think the next person after these three names should be Rema? Do you think Rema has proven himself to be a talent Africa should be proud of in the international market? Remember he has the numbers...
Let's have your thoughts below.. After ranking Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy, is Rema the next in line? (Let’s talk)
