Why Wizkid "Made in Lagos" Album Has Not Been Released [A MUST READ]

Just before you joined us here, you must have been wondering why Wizkid is yet to release his most talked about album "Made in Lagos". Well we have highlighted possible reasons why Wizkid "Made in Lagos" album is still unreleased.

The singer launched the campaign for this album in 2017 just after dishing his third studio album "Sounds From The Other Side". In the interview, Wizkid acknowledged the fact that "Sounds From The Other Side" is amazing but his next project which happens to be "Made in Lagos" is goint to be massive.

Wizkid has placed so much hype around this album for three years now. He believes so much in the work and melodies embedded in this body of work. The Starboy Entertainment boss and RCA records recording act, Wizkid claimed via his Instagram story weeks ago that "Made in Lagos" album is the best he has made.

Despite the whole hype and even trending on streaming platforms like apple music in March 2020, Wizkid is yet to release the "Made in Lagos" album for the following reasons.

1.      Record label saga

Wizkid and RCA records are obviously having issues. Since joining the Sony Music subsidiary in 2016 in what appeared to be the biggest recording deal signed by any African artist, Wizkid has struggled in dishing out afrobeat tunes and/or releasing songs as often as he used to. Starboy only released two singles in 2018 Master Groove” and Fever” probably because the record label couldn’t allow him drop more materials. He also released just two singles in 2019 Ghetto Love” and “Joro” before dishing out the “Soundman Vol 1 EP" under the Starboy umbrella.

Wizkid in an interview in 2018 revealed his Made in Lagos” is an album of 10 tracks with no features. He said this probably before the record label forced him into collaborations. He later confirmed working with H.E.R, Darmian Marley, Burna Boy, and others in the unreleased album.

2.      Too much songs to pick from

Wizkid according to so many managers, DJs, music journalists and the likes is one artist with a whole bunch of unreleased songs. His former manager, Mr Godwin Tom revealed that Wizkid records every day. He said the Starboy boss travels with a producer whenever he is travelling and records each time he settles in his hotel.

His addiction to making music makes him stand out. This is why everyone keeps talking about Wizkid and his hard disk because we have been told Wizkid has a hard disk he backs up all his unreleased tracks. Imagine an artist who records almost every day, and could record more than one track in a day. How many unreleased songs do you think he has at the moment? We are aware he has shared an unofficial list of features on his album with social media posts that suggest the album is read. However, we strongly believe Wizkid is having a hard time sorting through his hard disk to select songs for his "Made in Lagos" album.

3.      Fear of the unknown

The last possible reason why Wizkid "Made in Lagos" is stll unreleased is the risks involved in keeping your fans thirsty for a long time. The fear that the fans might not connect to the new Wizkid is evident. The fear that the album could be a failure and not the successful legendary album Wizkid has always dreamt of releasing could be a reason. Many have criticized the Starboy boss for bad lyrics and frowned on his push away from afrobeats. His "Sounds From The Other Sound" album and his recent single with H.E.R has been critically attacked on social media.

This only aggravates the fear already dominating Wizkid's camp. Keeping your fans thirsty for an album for three years and coming to give them something they can't relate to is totally out of the plans for Wizkid.

RCA records are obviously pushing for a western flavoured Wizkid to enable them cash out their investments via tours, concerts and merchandise but Wizkid knows it could deprive him kingship at home if he moves further away from afrobeat and afropop sounds.

These and many more could be the reason Wizkid "Made in Lagos" album is yet to drop.
