Nigerian music industry almost celebrated winning the Grammy award early this year when Burna Boy and Wizkid were nominated for the prestigious album. Davido was left out in the nominations but showed his support for Burna to win the album.
Burna Boy lost his first Grammy award nomination to Angelique Kidjo at the 62nd Grammy awards which held on January 26, 2020 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Nigerian afro-fusion singer was nominated for the World Album category following his epic performance on his fourth studio album dubbed "African Giant".
Wizkid back in 2016 was nominated for Grammy awards for album of the year following his contributions on Drake's fourth studio album "Views". The album released on April 26, 2016 featured Nigerian pop singer and songwriter Wizkid on "One Dance". Other guest appearances in the album include Rihanna, Kanye West, PartyNextDoor, and others.
In September 2019, there were reports that Wizkid could win the Grammy after Beyonce submitted their collaborative single "Brown Skin Girl" to Recording Academy. Sadly, the song was not nominated for the Best R&B song category even when most people believed Wizkid could have won the prestigious award as a supportive artist if the song was nominated. Many argued that Beyonce is the most nominated woman in Grammy history and the second most awarded after Alison Krauss thus it won't have been out of place for her to bag the award.
Davido on the other hand misses out in this list as the Sony Music act is yet to fetch himself a grammy award nomination either as the main act or a supportive artist. His sophomore album "A Good Time" had so much numbers and penetrated new markets but yet couldn't earn him a grammy award nomination.
Burna Boy so far stand's out amongst the trio. He has been nominated for the award as a main act ahead of Wizkid and Davido and here are 5 Reasons Why Burna Boy Will Win Grammy Before Wizkid and Davido.
1. His Collaboration With Diddy
Burna Boy announced his partnership deal with P Diddy to be one of the executive producers of his album. The business deal with Diddy is only a plus to his chances of winning the Grammys. He has been able to break into more markets, topping apple music charts in France, United Arab Emirates, Portugal and other countries of the world only shows the wonders of good partnership.
2. Conscious music
In a time when the Black community needed a voice to address marginalization, racism and other inhumane treatments they are facing in Europe, America and in the hands of African leaders, Burna Boy dished out an album to address these issues. The Nigerian singer is known for dishing out thought provoking songs with revolutionary lyrics and he didn't miss the point this time.
Amongst the trio, Burna Boy has bagged two Grammy award nominations. One as a main act with his fourth studio album "African Giant" and one as a supportive act in "Mania" by Fall Out Boy. The album was nominated for Best Rock Album in 2019.
4. He is passionate about winning Grammys
If an artist could admit feeling depressed after loosing an album and dropping a new album in bid to claim an award then he is very passionate about winning the award. Grammys mean alot to Burna Boy and he isn't hiding that. His fifth studio album "Twice as Tall" was deliberately released in August 2020 to meet up the Final-Round Online Entry Process Access Period by Grammy scheduled just before the First-Round Voting.
5. He's Versatile
Many mistake Burna Boy to be a rapper when he is not one because of the rarity of his talent and how versatile he tends to be. He has worked on so many sounds including reggae, afro-fusion, hip pop, afrobeat, trap, etc unlike Davido and Wizkid.
