Adedamola Adefolahan popularly known as Fireboy DML is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and recording artist who recently dished out his sophomore studio album tagged "Apollo".
The YBNL act, Fireboy DML discovered by Olamide in 2018 has successfully made his style of music a reputable brand in the Nigerian music space. His debut album released in 2019 'Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps' stood out last year. The solo-performed album bagged so many numbers on digital platforms and also earned him so many awards last year including a Soundcity MVP award for Listeners Choice and was equally nominated for song of the year with his track 'Jealous' off the said album.
Following his label's move to pen down a joint venture deal with Empire records, Fireboy DML returns with his second studio album "Apollo" barely nine months after he released his first studio album. The 17-track body of work featured Olamide, Wande Coal and American rapper, D Smoke. With "Apollo" album, Fireboy DML aims the legendary status, cementing his breakthrough as he gets adopted as a young god by Zeus.
In "Champion" , Fireboy DML employs
Fireboy DML earlier on cited Wande Coal as one of his contemporary influences alongside Jon Bellion and Passenger. A Fireboy DML and Wande Coal collaboration in "Spell" could only have been a dream come through for the youngster. This is one of the most anticipated songs off the album and to be honest, it came as hot as expected.
The thrid song "Eli" is one of the three singles in the album. Fireboy DML tells the story of Delilah in the holy book from another perspective. It's true Delilah was a snitch who sold out her lover but the love Sampson had for her was amazing and Fireboy DML seems to be preaching same love to his new girl. The song is groovy and addictive.
Pheelz and Fireboy DML seem to have a lot of chemistry together when it comes to making good music. In "Favourite Song" Pheelz gives Fireboy DML a funky sound to explore his soul and dish out something extra ordinary for his fans.
'Fine girl from New York City, I don't mind if you give me chance. Can i have just one more dance', takes us into another Fireboy DML song released as a single off his "Apollo" album. "New York City Girl' shows us the flirty side of the 'Jealous' lover as Fireboy DML seeks for a more dance with his New York City Girl before she leaves for the summer time.
Fame comes with jealousy, criticism, hatred and love. Fireboy DML returns love to all his haters who are envying his success. Of course it's their "Lifestyle" says the YBNL act. This is a fascinating and exciting sound.
In "Airplane Mode" Fireboy DML gives us a typical Fireboy DML sound. I literally had to play this over and over again just to see what he missed out. This is a genuine sound. Fireboy DML admits there as so many legends in the game and he simply want to be another one. The lyric as usual is top notch and the production as rendered by Pheelz is magnificent to say the least. "Airplane Mode" is one of my favourite songs in "Apollo" album.
"24 (Interlude)" by Fireboy DML reminds us we are half way gone with the album. The A/R and the team did a good job in arranging this album. This takes us into another side of the artist's stream of talent.
Fireboy DML having been an alternative act before majoring in Afrobeat returns with some classy and emotional to draw out our soul. "Dreamer" could only expose you to the part of Fireboy DML that adoped Jon Bellion as one of his contemporary influences.
In "Afar", Fireboy DML links up with his boss Olamide to give his fans the collaboration they were all waiting for. Baddoo kept it cool with his rap lines and Fireboy DML held the chorus in the Pheelz produced record.
Are you looking for a Fireboy DML song you could dance to? Something groovy and sexy that could allow you move your waist just at the right pace? Then "Shade" is your sound.
In "Friday Feeling" , Fireboy DML acknowledges the fact Fridays should be party night. You obviously don't need a reason to move your body to the rhythm portrayed in this song neither can you resist the mood Pheelz is prone to put you in. With "Friday Feeling" one could be right to say Fireboy DML will fly if he goes commercial.
